Mindset

This week in Project Rest we will explore relapse management on your journey. It is essential to understand that experiencing a relapse is not a failure but a natural part of managing obesity, a chronic disease that requires lifelong attention. Many people think that weight recurrence signifies a complete breakdown of their progress, but it’s important to shift that perspective.

Before we panic, CHECK THIS OUT! Let’s consider if it’s a lapse, a relapse, or a collapse

A lapse is a minor slip—maybe you indulged in a favorite treat or missed a workout. A relapse is a more significant setback, like gaining a few pounds, but it doesn’t mean you’re back to square one. Instead, it’s an opportunity to assess what triggered this shift. Finally, a collapse, which is often perceived as an all-or-nothing mentality, occurs when individuals feel entirely overwhelmed and abandon their goals.

Recognizing that you are not in collapse—far from it!—is vital. Your ongoing participation in Project Reset is a testament to your resilience and commitment. By acknowledging these phases and embracing the idea that setbacks are part of the journey, you empower yourself to navigate challenges without losing sight of your long-term goals. You will have time in our upcoming session to create your own Relapse Management Plan that will help to prevent you from returning to unhealthy habits, which often lead to weight regain.

Movement

Life happens, and that sometimes means missing a workout or skipping a day (or a few) of movement. But here’s the good news: you’re only human! The important thing isn’t what’s behind us but the steps we take moving forward. In the wise words of Benjamin Franklin, “If you fail to plan, you are planning to fail.” It’s all about setting up strategies to help us stay on track, even when life gets busy.

Whether it’s been a week or a few months since you last worked out, remember that the best time to make a change is right NOW! A small step today can help us rebuild that momentum and get back into a consistent routine

Here are a few questions to reflect on as we reset together:

What obstacles came up?

Think about the challenges that interrupted your routine. Identifying them can help us plan around similar situations in the future.

How can we bounce back and plan better moving forward?

Let’s look for manageable steps you can start with and set realistic goals that fit your schedule and energy level right now. Remember those SMART goals? Discover your WHY! If you miss one workout (or a few), try to resume your routine as soon as possible without guilt

Explore some common reasons we may miss a workout and methods to get back into our routines.

No need to overthink or be too hard on yourself—remember, every day is a new opportunity to MOVE, do something you ENJOY, and FEEL GOOD!

Meals

We all face moments where sticking to our routine feels tougher than usual, but having a plan in place can make all the difference. When it comes to preventing relapse, a solid meal plan can be one of your most powerful tools. Here’s how to ease back into your healthy routine and set yourself up for success one meal at a time:

Starting small is the key to building momentum. Focus on simple meals to prepare—ones that fit easily into your schedule and keep you feeling satisfied without the stress. You can pick just one or two meals you’d like to prepare ahead, and build from there. Planning and prepping even one healthy meal a day can help you regain control and confidence in your routine. With each step, you’re creating habits that prevent relapse and bring you closer to your goals.

Dive into our quick, protein-packed recipes that keep meal prep easy and enjoyable. Each recipe we’ve included is packed with at least 20 grams of protein per serving and should take less than 30 minutes to prepare. These recipes will help to fuel your body and maintain that feeling of fullness, making it easier to stay on track. They will support you in maintaining a balanced diet while helping prevent those moments of temptation. With delicious meals at your fingertips, sticking to your routine has never been simpler.

Motivation

When faced with the reality of a relapse, it’s essential to remember that this moment doesn’t define your entire journey. Instead of viewing it as a setback, approach it as an opportunity to learn and adapt. Reflect on what led to the relapse. Was it stress, a change in routine, or perhaps a social situation that triggered old habits? By identifying these factors, you can create a stronger plan moving forward. Focus on the small victories you’ve achieved, and use them as motivation to push through. It’s crucial to be kind to yourself during this process. Every step, even the missteps, contributes to your growth and resilience. The fact that you are actively engaging in relapse management shows your dedication to maintaining progress and achieving lasting success. So, dust yourself off, recalibrate your approach, and remember that each day is a fresh start. With every healthy choice, you reinforce your commitment to your health and well-being, paving the way for a brighter, healthier future.
